Finally a new chapter of Lucy!
Lucy was my last “active” story which had not seen any chapter planned or published in 2014, and next Monday, a new one will be published.
I had managed to successfully write at least 1 new chapter for all of my serials (except the 3 put on Hiatus) since the return of my site, with the exception of Lucy.
I didn’t really have a problem with Lucy per se… It’s just that Lucy was scheduled for Mondays, where Sue was picking speed and Pat was just starting, leaving no place for Lucy to live.
Sure, I could have moved Lucy to another day, but honestly, was there another day more suitable for her?
Tuesdays have Harmony and Karen, both of which I am apparently able to write for at least once per two weeks, leaving no room for poor Phil, their alternate.
Wednesday is my family day, with Suzy&Jill, now with 37 chapters and Lizzie, Suzy’s daugther, growing with 29 Chapters, leaving no room for an alternate.
Thursdays might have room for Lucy, but there are already FIVE stories scheduled for Fridays! Sam and Pets both take a lot of space, leaving no room for POV (which I always admitted would be limited as a series) and Olivia and Cathy getting pushed aside.
So, Lucy will stay on Monday, at least until I decide to publish stories 5 days a week like in the past, with my blogs running on Saturdays, but I am not there yet. I kind of enjoys the 4 stories per week schedule which lets me build a buffer instead of struggling to fill it…
It’s not just a matter of having 1 less chapter per week, but a matter of how the schedule is built: if I resume Fridays as a story day, I need to move some of my serials to it.
Let’s say I move Lucy, Phil and Olivia to Friday.
That means that I now need to write at least 1 chapter per month for each of these stories, when I might not have enough ideas so far for it.
But it also means that if I am stuck on Sue and Pat, I don’t have Lucy as a fall back because now, she is on Fridays…
It’s the same with Sam and Pets. Right now, they are going strong, but what about in 3 to 5 months when I will have overtaken my current notes? Will I have new ideas to develop them or will I need to spend time to develop new ones, using Olivia and Cathy as fall backs?
Because let’s face it, that’s what my Alternate stories really are for: to step back from a primary story while I build the next phase for it.
Now, if I were to make a prediction, I think that Lucy will alternate with Pat, with Sue getting a new chapter every 2 weeks, and Pat and Lucy getting a new chapter every month.
But I might be wrong… Pat and Pets have a common dungeon and I am afraid that Pets might steal some of Pat’s planned story lines simply because I prefer Pets to Pat.
And yet, I have other ideas for Pets which might leave Pat’s plans alone so it might be Sue who would run once per month with Lucy as I am soon getting closer to the end of my original plan…
We’ll see. Either way, I am rather excited for the future.
